A little bit about Me
When you’re a freelancer, you can often build up a personal relationship with your clients. I consider many of my clients to be good friends, and we’ve been through so much together over the years. If you’re considering or starting to work with me, you might find yourself wondering what my personal story is or what I do when I’m not designing (if you’re not that interested in my hobbies, all good – just skip this and head on over to my official ABOUT page). If you are a bit curious, I’ll tell you a little bit about me…
In the beginning…
I was born in Vancouver, Canada and was creating artwork from the moment I was allowed to touch finger paint. As I grew up, I tried every kind of art class, tool and medium that I could find. When I graduated, everyone expected me to pursue art as a career, which I obviously did. I completed two design programs, most notably the IDEA School of Design, and worked at numerous design studios, including EDG Experience Design Group (read my full CV here).
Side note: Alongside working and studying, I taught group fitness and offered personal training for several years to earn extra cash and stay fit!
In 2013, after a trip to India for a YTT course, I felt a deep need for travel and life change. So I packed up, said goodbye to my homeland, and moved to Australia for 2 years. This was the single best decision that I have ever made. It completely changed my life and I can’t imagine where I would be if I hadn’t bought that plane ticket. Sometimes you just need to take a chance on something that you feel is right, even if you can’t explain why.
Australia challenged me and helped me grow in so many ways. And it wasn’t all just sunshine and fun. When I arrived in Sydney, I couldn’t find a job. Whether it was the competition, my methods or my foreign certifications, I couldn’t get hired anywhere as a designer or trainer for over a year. Luckily, I had some freelance design clients under my belt and had found a great co-working space, The Hub Sydney, where I made amazing connections and gained new clients as I continued my search for a “real” job. At some point, I realized that I didn’t need a real job…I already had one. I’ve been building up my Freelance Graphic Design business ever since.
That brings us up to date. I currently live in Germany with my boyfriend (whom I met in Australia), and run my little business out of our apartment and the occasional co-working space. I love my work, I love my clients and I love this freelance, digital nomad, creative lifestyle that I’ve created. It’s empowering and challenging and rewarding in all the right ways. I’m looking to make it even bigger and better in the coming years, so I hope you’re here to join me!
